Britches & Boots ​4- H Horse Club


Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club participate in a service project at Grazing Acres Therapeutic Riding Center cleaning tack for the new session.  

We visited local top Amateur Western Reining Champion, Dianna Wolfson to review and learning about western tack. (picture to the right)

Club members completed the green level training at Diamonds in the Rough Equine Rescue. Club members groomed the miniature horses.

Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club Winter Holiday party.  Lots of great food and games. The club also collected food for Cooperative Ministries in Franklin for its service project.

Grazing Acres Service Project September 23, 2017

Vet Clinic - September 10, 2016 Veterinarian Dr. Sarah Lowe discusses immunizations required for various facilities and how to take vital signs.  Club members learned how to take temperature, pulse and respiration.  They learned about digital pulse and capillary refill.  

Blanketing Clinic - club members learn about different types of blankets and sheets.  Then they learned and practiced putting the blankets on and off.

EquiSmartz is the Virginia State competition for Hippology, Horse Judging, Horse Bowl & Presentations.  It is held in conjunction with the Virginia Horse Festival in Doswell.  The Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club members practice on the 1st Friday of the month  to prepare.  This year our seniors partnered with Chesapeake for Horse Bowl placing 7th in the state!

Horse Bowl competition at New Kent High School for the Southeast Region.  Our senior club members partnered with Chesapeake to form at team that placed 5th and qualified for EquiSmartz (Virginia State competition).

Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club members participated in a service project to welcome visitors to the barn!  They answered questions and handed out information about joining 4-H.  

Club members also participated in the fair. They entered horse posters in the 4-H categories, and others entered photographs.

April 29, 2017 - SE District Horse Show

On July 30, 2016, Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club and the Chesapeake 4-H Horse Club gathered together at Bleu Fox Stables to learn how to harness a pony to a cart and drive!

Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club dressed up for the fall party in their favorite costume, played games and had some food and drink.  We collected extra candy to donate to Cooperative Ministries and the Southampton Department of Children & Family Services (DFACS)

On March 11, 2017, the Southeast Region 1 District Contest was held at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake.  Club members entered several categories including Fine Arts, Photography and Trash to Treasure.  Becca won the Fine Arts category (purple ribbon) for her horse painting called "Misty Cabot." Club members won blue ribbons for excellence in painting, photography, and trash to treasure for their work!

Southampton County Fair August 10 - 13, 2016
